Types of wrinkles

Superficial wrinkles are those that disappear with the stretching of the skin; they differ from deep wrinkles, which are not modified when the skin is stretched.

There is another approach to differentiating types of wrinkles: a classification developed by Richard Glogau, which groups wrinkles into four levels according to the degree of photoaging of the skin.
- Type I: minimal appearance of wrinkles, due to initial photoaging, mild alteration of pigmentation, absence of keratosis or senile lentigines. It occurs in people between 20 and 30 years old.
- Type II: the skin remains smooth in the absence of movements, but during habitual movements (laughing, frowning, etc.) the face appears with wrinkles, accompanied by initial senile lentigos and telangectasias, without visible hyperkeratosis. It occurs in people over 35 years old.
- Type III: They are visible in the absence of habitual movements, there are senile lentigos, telangectasis and solar keratosis. It is suffered by people over 50 years of age and requires permanent makeup.
Type IV: wrinkles are generalised, with a reduction in the thickness of the epidermis, and the skin assumes a yellowish colouring (due to the increase in the thickness of the horny layer). There is a greater tendency to skin cancer and it occurs in people over 60 years of age.
The wrinkles that most concern people, especially women, are those that appear on the face.
